What is the point of blocking political questions or answers?

Just tried to answer a question only to find it removed. I'll admit there some stupid questions, and this may very well be one, but when I see one I usually resort to the 'show me another' icon. I might take the time to point out that the asker is a moron, and thanks to all of those who are doing so right now, but is blocking like a 'its my ball and you can't play' thing?
