How is Atticus from To Kill A Mockingbird a Christ-like figure?

He teaches and preaches love - when scout first begins the book she's sort of a tomboy and a figher. Then as she progresses with Atticus's example, she desires to meet boo radley - to understand him. Other people in the town like the black community and aunt maudie also recognize what Atticus's is doing, and feel inspired by it, though in the end Atticus eventually loses the case, finds himself widely persecuted by the white majority, and is threatened with violence.
